James Butler Offers The Wall Street Journal His Take on the Viability of New Jet Business Models

In an effort to meet a growing demand for private jet travel with fewer restrictions and a lesser financial commitment, some providers, such as the recent start-up, VistaJet, now are offering hourly charter options.

The Wall Street Journal asked independent jet advisor and attorney, James Butler, for his take on such new business models, the challenges they face, their competitors and how they may fare in the long term.

Faced with regulatory changes, unpredictable fuel prices and a demanding client base, Butler says, “You throw all that in there and it’s a tough business to run.”
